Via DEDC, I went through some poll numbers for our Washington State election. There’s a couple issues where you expect to see libertarians voting with the democrats, in particular gay marriage and legalization and regulation of marijuana. So, does the tea party show its small government, pro-liberty side in the poll?
Same sex marriage:
Dems: 86-10
Non Tea-Party Independents: 55-36
GOP: 21-72
Tea Party: 15-77
Marijuana decriminalization:
Dems: 69-23
Non Tea-Party Independents: 60-33
GOP: 32-61
Tea Party: 29-63
Go figure, not only does the Tea Party diverge greatly from the actual independent vote, it’s actually more conservative and anti-freedom than the GOP on issues where they supposedly would be pro-freedom.
We’ve said it so many times: The Tea Party IS the far-right wing of the GOP, and nothing more. In the Senate race this year, they’re even endorsing the GOP candidate who told a reporter to go fuck himself by a margin of 87-7, while identified GOP voters only support him 76-14.
